Birth of a Painting

I work primarily from photographs, but I am not a photorealist. I will omit elements, such as the background, or details that detract from the subject. Often I take progress photos as I work on a painting, it is helpful to get a sense of how long it takes to complete a piece. And I also find it helpful to look at an unfinished painting on my phone for a different perspective. Below is a video showing the progression of several pieces from the original photograph to finished painting. I have also included photos and finished paintings below.
